The WWF Madagascar Office is recruiting a (01) Goal lead: Regional Fisheries - SWIO Programme.

Location: One of the WWF SW Indian Ocean Regional Programme countries i.e. South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya or Madagascar

Term of contract: Three-year contract with the option of renewal dependent on funding.

Job assignment:

The main function of this position is to lead and coordinate the delivery of the WWF SWIO 2030 Strategic Regional Fisheries Goals and implement the WWF Global Tuna Strategy in the region:

Strengthened coastal fisheries governance, leading to a reduction in data-deficient fisheries across SWIO
Strengthening regional fisheries governance through IOTC, SWIOFC and SADC

Profile

Required Qualifications :

A higher academic degree (PhD or MSC) in an environment-related field.
At least 10 years relevant experience in the WIO region.
Solid knowledge of tuna and/or coastal fisheries in the region
Knowledge of the functioning and governance of the IOTC (Indian Ocean Tuna
Commission) is considered a preferred qualification
Good understanding of institutional and political context

Required Skills and Competencies

Strategic thinker, with ability to link high-level political strategies to activity implementation on the ground.
Good inter-personal and diplomatic skills.
Convener and facilitator, demonstrating “soft” leadership and deal-broker ability.
Ability to see relevance of and translate science findings into policy recommendations.
Ability to explain complex concepts, findings and ideas in public and translating for specific audiences (e.g. from governments to local communities).
Adherence to WWF’s values, which are: Courage, Respect, Integrity, Collaboration
